John Wm. Macy's CheeseSticks Earns Highest Food Safety and Quality Management Certification

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J., May 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — John Wm. Macy's CheeseSticks of Elmwood Park, NJ announced it has received its SQF Certificate of Registration Level 3 – Comprehensive Food Safety and Quality Management Systems. This is the highest level of SQF certification and qualifies the Company to display the SQF Quality Shield in its communications with the public.

SQF certification is granted following successful completion of comprehensive food safety and/or quality management audits conducted by independent certifying organizations. There are three levels of SQF certification. Level 1 incorporates fundamental food safety controls. Level 2 is a certified HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety plan that is benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Level 3 is a comprehensive implementation of safety and quality management systems that incorporates Level 2.

John Wm. Macy's CheeseSticks was previously certified SQF Level 2. "While not generally required by our customers," says John Macy, the Company's founder and President, "we believe this highest level of SQF certification demonstrates our total commitment to meeting the most rigorous standards of food safety and quality management."

The SQF standard is administered by the Safe Quality Food Institute, a division of the Food Marketing Institute, and is the only food safety and quality program recognized by GFSI that is headquartered outside of Europe. SQFI provides complimentary copies of the SQF codes and free, comprehensive practical guidance to assist in the implementation of SQF food safety and quality management systems.

GFSI is an industry-driven initiative providing leadership and guidance on food safety management systems necessary for safety along the supply chain. This work is accomplished through collaboration between the world's leading food safety experts from retail, manufacturing, distribution and food service companies, as well as international organizations, governments, academia and service providers to the global food industry.
