Island Internship in Panama Offers Life-Changing Opportunity

For Those Seeking a Dream Job in Travel, Isla Palenque Is the Ultimate Destination

CHICAGO, Feb. 20, 2012 — The Resort at Isla Palenque opened submissions today for their Island Intern Contest, an online video competition in which adventure-seekers nationwide vie for the opportunity to spend their summer living on a tropical island in Panama.

Reporting for work on a 400-acre jungle paradise located in the Gulf of Chiriqui, the Isla Palenque Island Intern will be expected to perform such "daily tasks" as immersing in the pristine wilderness and rich cultural heritage of the region and sharing it with their fellow travelers. A propensity for adventure and social media know-how round out a list of applicant requirements that sounds more befitting of a far-fetched dream job than the typical entry-level position.

To apply, contestants must submit a YouTube video detailing why they are the best candidate for the island internship. After a voting period and review by a panel of travel industry leaders, the lucky winner will spend four weeks living on Isla Palenque, with all expenses paid, in addition to receiving a $2,500 stipend.

The sponsor of this dream job opportunity is Amble Resorts, developer of the sustainable eco-luxury resort under construction on Isla Palenque. The second-annual contest follows on the heels of the premiere of the video documentary series, produced by 2011 contest winners Luke Hansen and Ben Brown. The Adventures of the Island Interns showcases Panama's diverse attractions in a 12-part online video series featuring groundbreaking footage and stunning cinematography. "I think everyone needs to see this part of the world at some point in their life," says filmmaker and 2011 Island Intern Luke Hansen of his experience. "I didn't even know places like this still existed, that you could sit on a beach with literally no one on it, or see monkeys in their natural habitat like we're used to seeing squirrels back in the States. It's amazing."

The 2012 Island Intern Contest winner will create a second testament to Amble Resorts' mission to provide life-changing travel experiences in places of pristine natural beauty and authentic local culture. "Watching our Island Interns experience Panama in their videos is completely eye-opening," says Amble Resorts President Benjamin Loomis of the opportunity, "whether they are being blown away by the world-class dining in Panama City or helping an indigenous woman set the table with banana leaves for dinner. It's just fun to have them down here and see Panama come to life through their experience. We're excited to have an intern on the island again this summer."

Loomis will be hands-on throughout the entire Island Intern Contest process, leading the panel of industry experts who will weigh in on the finalist selection. The panel includes National Geographic editor Andrew McCarthy, "Journeywoman" Evelyn Hannon, host of television series "The Amazing Adventures of a Nobody" Leon Logothetis, host of This Week in Travel podcast Jennifer Leo, Conde Nast travel blogger Kim Mance, National Geographic cinematographer Andy Casagrande, Jetsetter social media manager Jonathan Goldmann, author of the Unbound column in National Geographic Traveler Boyd Matson, and Gadling.com travel blogger Kyle Ellison.

Submissions for the 2012 Internship open today, and the voting period begins April 2, 2012. Ten finalists will be chosen on April 16 to continue to the next, more intimate round of the competition, which will include a blogging challenge and allow finalists to make their case via Skype interviews with Amble representatives.

The 2012 Island Intern will be announced on April 30, 2012. Visit the contest website for more information on the intern's responsibilities, rewards, requirements, terms and conditions and to view video submissions from last year's contestants.
