An Intriguing Blend of Memoir and Parapsychology

A woman's incredible true story of childhood neglect and her power to triumph in a life riddled with obstacles and paranormal experiences

BUFFALO, N.Y., April 4, 2011 — In this troubled economy, author Nancy Lee Canfield's memoir, A Rose for My Mother, proves to readers that hopes and wishes can come true. She shares her true story of family hardships and how she found the inner strength to triumph over adversity to motivate and give an inspirational message to the many others who are hurting or may be down on their luck.

This autobiography tells how one girl survives the daily assaults of feminism, her body, and her emotions while trying to become a woman, and the difficult decisions that have to be made in order to survive the times. It is a firsthand account of the author's early life and struggles during a historic period of war and poverty.

"The writing style is very open and descriptive. Canfield makes appropriate use of dialogue, movement and setting to help the reader visualize an evolving and changing, if hurting and searching, person." – Jack L. Kennedy, Joplin Independent Book Review

"The author's tell-it-like-it-was memoir is moving because of its lack of sentimentality; she neither demonizes nor idealizes her parents and depicts the people in her life so vividly that at times it's easy to forget that this startling tale is nonfiction … An inspirational, unsentimental tale of overcoming the odds." – Kirkus Reviews

Things are not always as they seem, and that there is beauty even in the most dire of circumstances. This story in part, may have been lived by many women – the story of what many have thought or experienced but haven't been able to put into words.

About the Author

Nancy Lee Canfield was born in Buffalo, NY in 1938. She has experienced psychic abilities from the time she was a small child, and her abilities opened as she faced various challenges in her childhood, including her parents' poverty and heavy drinking and her going in and out of an orphanage and five foster homes all before the age of thirteen. At seventeen, she found herself in a loveless marriage with Joe, a 23-year-old construction worker. By the age of nineteen, Nancy was pregnant with her third child. Her psychic abilities continue to expand as she studies psychic development. Her reputation as a paranormal investigator grows and she is invited to participate in the 50th anniversary seance of Harry Houdini. Shortly after that, she had an awakening moment of what true love is, when, as her mother lay dying in the hospital, her father entered the room with a single rose, signifying that he has always loved her mother and always will. Nancy has made a promise to herself that, someday, she too will find true love.
