The International Board for Certification of Safety Managers (IBFCSM) Announces Three New Healthcare Safety-Related Certification Opportunities

HELENA, Ala., Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — IBFCSM is proud to announce three new healthcare safety-related opportunities.  IBFCSM, a not-for-profit independent credentialing organization, launched the Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) credential in 1978.  The CHSP has now attained the status as the premiere U.S. healthcare safety credential with more than 3,500 healthcare professionals having earned the designation. The CHSP remains the Board's flag-ship professional certification for the comprehensive practice of healthcare safety.  Effective January 2, 2015, IBFCSM will be accepting Applications from Qualified Candidates for the following new credentials: Certified in Healthcare Safety–Nursing (CHSN); Certified in Healthcare Safety–Long Term Care (CHS-LTC); and Certified in Healthcare Safety–Environmental Services (CHS–EVS).

All Candidates must complete the Online Application Process, including the submission of Reference Evaluation Forms from two persons aware of their fitness for certification. Candidates must also pay the published Application Fees before sitting for the examination.  Master-Level Candidates must document at least eight years of relevant experience and/or education combined. However, a four-year degree is not required to qualify.  Associate-Level for Candidates must document four (4) years of relevant experience and/or education combined.

For those applying for the CHSN credential, IBFCSM recognizes the following nursing licenses: RN, LVN, and LPN. The following designations are also recognized: CNA, RNA, CCMA, HHA, PCT or similar credentials. IBFCSM encourages qualified supervisors and team leaders working in the environmental services profession to apply for the CHS-EVS credential. Long-term care administrators, risk managers, facility directors or those coordinating safety-related issues are encouraged to apply for the CHS-LTC credential.  Personnel working in Assisted Living Facilities are also encouraged to apply.

All Candidates must attain a passing score on a closed-book Certification Examination. Each exam contains at least 100 multiple-choice exam items with four possible responses. Some exam questions will require analysis and/or critical thinking.
