International Board for Certification of Safety Managers (IBFCSM) Announces New Certified Emergency and Disaster Professional (CEDP) Credential

HELENA, Ala., Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — IBFCSM, a not-for-profit credentialing organization founded in 1976, is pleased to announce the launch of the Certified Emergency and Disaster Professional (CEDP) credential.  IBFCSM established the CEDP credential in September 2014 to meet the need for a practical credential for those working in the public, private, and governmental positions related to emergency, disaster, and contingency management. Candidates can qualify for the CEDP without a four-year degree by documenting relevant experience, training, and achievement.

The CEDP Exam addresses emergency protection, planning, management, response, and mitigation concepts. It also addresses emergency related standards, principles, and/or best practices from organizations such as:  FEMA, DHS, DHHS, NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, NRC, CDC, EPA, and OSHA.  The CEDP Exam addresses concepts related to the 2014 FEMA 31 Planning Objectives.

Personnel serving in any of the following related functions may qualify to sit for the CEDP Exam: (1) emergency/disaster managers or coordinators, (2) public health department personnel, (3) Federal, state, and local governmental personnel performing emergency related responsibilities, (4) hazardous material managers, (5) first responders including fire and law enforcement professionals, (6) emergency medical technicians,  (7) emergency, safety, and management consultants, (8) occupational safety and health managers, (9) hazard control professionals, (10) private security officers,  (11) emergency  volunteers, and (12) any others who work in functions related to emergency and disaster management.

All Candidates must complete the Online Application Process including the submission of Reference Evaluation Forms from two persons aware of their fitness for certification.  Fully qualified Master-Level Candidates must document at least eight (8) years of experience and education combined.  Associate Level Candidates must document at least (4) years of experience and education combined. Each Candidate must achieve a passing score on a closed-book certification exam. Each IBFCSM exam contains at least 100 multiple-choice exam questions. Some exam questions will require analysis, application of concepts, and/or critical thinking.
