Inspired by Friends at My 12 Step Store, Lovesober Announces "Giving Back" Program to Benefit Local Recovery Houses, Educate Public on Importance of Safe, Supportive Recovery Destinations

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Lovesober, the company empowering those in recovery through news, entertainment and uplifting interviews, has created a program to benefit drug and alcohol addiction recovery houses. Modeled on a similar program launched by R.J. Holguin of My 12 Step Store, "Giving Back" encourages donations to some of the most successful residential programs in the LA area. More information on the "Giving Back" program, as well as everything that Lovesober has to offer, is available at http://www.lovesober.com.

"75% of all recovery homes rely solely on the support of the community," said Paul Kole, Founder of Lovesober LLC. "Both as a company and as members of the recovery community, we feel a responsibility to support those services that were available when we needed them most."

The following Los Angeles area recovery homes are now featured on Lovesober's "Giving Back" page:

  • The Peggy Albrecht Friendly House LA. The oldest recovery home for women in the U.S., Friendly House LA has earned a glowing reputation for professional, caring support.
  • McIntyre House. The McIntyre House provides a safe and stable home-like atmosphere for men recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

In addition to encouraging the community to give back, Lovesober intends to donate a portion of its ad revenue to local homes every year. But raising money is only part of the "Giving Back" mission. Kole also hopes to bring greater awareness to the financial struggles of recovery homes and their residents. A month in such a facility may cost several thousand dollars, and residents often have trouble footing that bill. However, the rewards of even a few weeks in a caring group home are impossible to calculate, both in terms of sobriety and the restoration of basic human dignity.

"Professional support and a sense of community are powerful things when you are just starting out on your recovery journey," explained Kole. "We want to recognize and honor those recovery homes that are teaching people to love and respect themselves again."

Lovesober's new Giving Back page has been inspired by a similar initiative launched by R.J. Holguin, founder of My 12 Step Store, a recovery book and gift store located in the heart of West Hollywood. The store is now entering its 11th year of celebrating the journey of recovery; edgy and inspiring gifts comprise the store's inventory, offering the chance to add some unexpected fun on the path to health and happiness.

My 12 Step Store has something for recovering addicts of every stripe. Founder R.J. Holguin added: "Whether you are famous or infamous, we offer ways to make recovery exciting; we don't believe anyone can ever be a mascot for the challenges of sobriety and recovery. However, we do feel that celebrities' experiences can be an attraction for others who are struggling to maintain recovery or thinking about recovery."

Kole has ambitious plans for the future of Lovesober. An online store of recovery-related products and consumables with proceeds going back to the community is just around the corner. Kole encourages anyone in recovery or who knows someone in recovery to stay tuned to see what Lovesober unveils next.
