Impact Signs, Leading Producer of Bronze Plaques, Announces Availability of Bas Relief Plaques

Architectural sign company provides streamlined plaque manufacturing process, ensuring a speedy and quality finished product

CHICAGO, Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Bronze bas relief plaques are now available from Impact Signs, a leading producer of bronze plaques. The artistic sculpting process has been greatly streamlined due to an in-house sculptor, which is a key advantage for creating realistic portraits within a quick timeframe. The manufacturing process also uses state-of-the-art technology to produce bas relief plaques of the highest quality.

Bas Relief Overview

Bas Relief plaques are primarily used to memorialize people, dedicate buildings, and as military and historical tributes. Bas relief plaques from Impact Signs are made of solid bronze, allowing them to withstand harsh outdoor environments.

Bas relief portraits generally depict people, although they may also show company logos, building seals and historical vignettes. They usually measure between six and nine inches on a side, and have a finished depth between ¾ and 1 inch. The thickness of the bronze is between 1/4 and 5/16 inch. The sculpture itself typically costs between $2,100 and $2,700 and the cost of the entire package is usually between $3,000 and $6,000, depending on its size and other factors.

Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process for bronze bas relief plaques begins when you provide Impact Signs with a photograph. The in-house artist will sculpt a clay model, giving particular attention to detail and facial expressions.

The sculptor makes a sand mold from the clay model you have approved, and pours molten bronze into the mold. After the bronze cools, the sculpture is finished by hand and dark oxide paint is rubbed into the sculpture to provide dimension and tone. The sculpture is then attached to the plaque by mechanical means. The next stage is painting the background and finishing the plaque to Impact Sign's exacting standards. The bronze plaque then receives a Diamond Shield clear coating to protect the plaque from the weather.

Timing and Dedications

It is important to inform Impact Signs of your deadline at the beginning of the project, so they can ensure your expectations for delivery are realistic. It normally requires six to eight weeks to complete a bas relief sculpture. Impact Signs can rush this process occasionally and complete it in as little as three weeks, although rush fees will apply.
