New Image Camps Celebrate 24 Years and a Quarter Million Pounds Lost

Camp Continues to Help Children and Young Adults Lose Weight and Build Self-esteem

REEDERS, Pa., May 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — New Image Camps – comprised of Camp Pocono Trails in Pennsylvania and Camp Vanguard in Florida – is celebrating its 24th year setting kids on the path to losing weight, developing healthier lifestyles, building self-esteem and forging lifelong friendships. In fact, over the past 24 years, campers ages 7-17 have lost a quarter million pounds. It's an astounding number and it's a point of pride for Tony Sparber, owner/founder. New Image Camps are one of the only private, ACA-accredited weight loss camps in the United States.

"I'm so proud to be celebrating our 24th summer and I personally have 35 years of experience in this area," Sparber says. "I actually went to one of the very first weight-loss camps as an overweight teen, and it turned my life around. Our camps were ahead of their time and it's always my goal to stay ahead of the curve. As much as I love saying the kids at our camps have lost a quarter-million pounds, it's even more exciting to me that we've helped thousands of kids transform their lives. They're not just dropping a few pounds for the summer. They're losing the weight and keeping it off and, for them, that's a lifestyle change that can positively impact their lives going forward."

The New Image Camps offer programs not just for children, but also young adults ages 18-25, as well as a new family camp; inspiring boys weight loss, girls weight loss and teen weight loss. These programs are indicative of Sparber's determination to evolve the camps based on the needs/requests of its patrons. And, backing up his "lifestyle change" comment, Sparber notes that Camp Pocono Trails and Camp Vanguard are more than just weight-loss camps.

"They're high-quality summer camps with lakes, swimming pools, basketball courts, soccer fields and dedicated staffs, as well as diverse programming," he says, "as opposed to only diet and weight-loss activities at typical weight-loss camps. We don't believe in fad diets, deprivation, or clinical treatments in a school atmosphere. Rather, we teach you how to live a healthier life by making smarter choices, being conscious of portion sizes, and engaging in physical activities while enjoying our beautiful, private camp setting. We also do a lot of follow-up work with our kids."

New Image Camps, as Sparber noted, are on private lakefront facilities, unlike most weight-loss camps, which use small portions of heavily populated college campuses or boarding schools. That means the only people at New Image Camp facilities are those who are participating in the camp program, guaranteeing a completely controlled environment.

Over the years, New Image Camps have been featured on MTV, Good Morning America, Dr. Phil and The Today Show, as well as in the pages of People Magazine and The New York Times, among others. Further, they sponsor an annual national essay contest, "Imagine Me! I'm Up for the Challenge," with two boys and two girls earning nine-week camperships at Camp Pocono Trails.
