Identity Finder Releases Industry's First Solution to Locate and Classify Unique Sensitive Data

SANS Survey Reveals Leaked Sensitive Data Causes the Most-Costly Breaches

NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Identity Finder, the highest-accuracy provider of data discovery and data classification solutions, today announced the release of their Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solution, Sensitive Data Manager 9.0. This release adds to the company's current data management and classification capabilities by introducing powerful, custom data discovery capabilities that eliminate the burden of IT Security by allowing organizations to locate their unique sensitive data. Sensitive Data Manager 9.0 also increases automation of classification and DLP security controls, reaching deep into cloud environments to further data minimization efforts and manage sensitive data. The addition of user-driven data classification further empowers organizations to take a hybrid approach to integrated DLP management, enabling them to leverage both automated and manual classifications.

In a recent survey conducted and analyzed by the SANS Institute and Identity Finder, "Cleaning Up After a Breach, Post Breach Impact: A Cost Compendium," respondents overwhelmingly conveyed that no matter what the detection time of a sensitive data breach, financial and brand residual impact lasted anywhere from 1 month-to-3 years after the incident. In terms of information targeted, personal information (Social Security numbers, personally identifiable data) was the most often breached, followed by identity and financial information. And most compellingly, the SANS Institute and Identity Finder survey found that all financially damaging data breaches involved at least 50% sensitive data, and that once more than 75% of the breached data was sensitive, post-breach financial losses grew dramatically.

This release adds innovative new functionality that mitigates the risk of sensitive data breaches unlike traditional tools available in the marketplace.  "It enables enterprises to not only map their sensitive data footprint with extremely high accuracy, but also persistently classify it in real-time so that employees use data appropriately and avoid causing leaks," said Todd Feinman, CEO of Identity Finder.  "Precise data classification has been an ongoing challenge for most companies, but thanks to our automated classification engine, businesses can both classify new data as it is created or used, as well as classify the ocean of historical data that has been created over the years."

"Organizations that store sensitive data such as credit card numbers and personal health information are often required by a variety of regulatory compliance mandates such as HIPAA or PCI to take specific steps to protect it. However, existing regulations often don't address unique, company-specific sensitive data, which is often difficult to both identify and classify, and as a result often falls through the cracks of typically manual processes," said Garrett Bekker, 451 Sr. Analyst Research.
