The entry, Health Summary, was created by a collaborative team of digital designers, health educators, and user experience strategists. The design provides a holistic view of the patient's current health. It provides a health score based on physical, emotional, and lifestyle factors to help the patient easily understand his or her health status. Health Summary won the top honors for Best Lab Summaries.

"HealthEd's winning entry redesigns raw laboratory data and medical diagnostics into information that's user-friendly, visually appealing," explains Kel Smith, Chief Innovation Officer for HealthEd. "It encourages productive dialogue between patients and their healthcare providers. The result is a government-recommended design model to ensure better outcomes in personal wellness."

Faced with a low health literacy rate and an aging population, the federal government is increasingly challenged to help Americans manage their health. Creating truly patient-friendly, easy-to-understand health records was the focus of the Health Design Challenge. The competition launched in November 2012. It generated more than 230 inspiring entries from designers and developers around the United States, including those from New Jersey based HealthEd.

  • Help family members and friends care for their loved ones

This initiative is supported by the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and digital innovators Rock Health, Designer Fund, the California HealthCare Foundation, and Luxor.
