Girls' Advocacy Group About-Face to Partner With Cellar Angels Wine Charity

A leading advocacy group educating women and girls on harmful media messages about body image and self-esteem, has partnered with the fast-growing wine fund-raising group

SAN FRANCISCO, July 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Cellar Angels today announces the addition of charity partner About-Face to help raise awareness of the damaging messages the media sends about women's and girls' body image and self-esteem. About-Face also will benefit financially as they are now a direct beneficiary of the Cellar Angels online wine charity program, where consumers can purchase discounted wine from Cellar Angels' winery partners and personally select the charity that will receive proceeds from their purchase.

Based in San Francisco, About-Face marks the seventeenth partner for Cellar Angels, joining noteworthy charities The V Foundation, Jenny McCarthy's autism charity Generation Rescue, Clinica Verde, The Ounce of Prevention Fund, and Leeza Gibbons' Alzheimer's charity Leeza's Place.

Cellar Angels is rapidly becoming the go-to website for wine lovers looking to secure small production, high-quality wines from Napa and Sonoma County.

About-Face was a natural fit in Cellar Angels' mission of helping change the world through wine.

"The sheer volume of media messages young girls and women are subject to, and the very harmful content these messages contain regarding their body image, is unimaginable," says Cellar Angels founder and president Martin Cody.  "With the average person in the U.S. seeing 3,000 ads per day, female body image is being shaped by commercialism, not realism. When a clothing industry uses a standard size 0 — which I would normally define as invisible — I think we have a problem, which About-Face does a masterful job of addressing. We're thrilled to help their efforts."

Headquartered in San Francisco, About-Face recognizes the value and proximity of America's most famous wine regions.

"Wine is a great way to engage supporters in our work with girls and women and to raise funds for About-Face. We are for independent business with a giving streak, and Cellar Angels works with small and family-run wineries. Cellar Angels has a great model that benefits us all," says Jennifer Berger, Executive Director of About-Face.

Cellar Angels features one highly desired wine each week from Napa or Sonoma County, discounted to their membership and available to purchase from the winery via Cellar Angels' website. These wines are rarely found in wine shops or retail outlets, as production is too limited. Membership is free and available at www.cellarangels.com.  Members have just five days to purchase before the offer disappears. Once the transaction is complete the member is prompted to select a charity to receive proceed contributions. Consumers can now select About-Face to help educate girls and women on the acceptable media content to help promote healthy self-esteem.
