FDA Approves Breakthrough Non-Surgical Treatment of Double Chin

NEW YORK, May 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved a cosmetic treatment for the unsightly double chin that does not require surgery. The treatment, Kybella, targets fat cells below the chin when injected – fat cells which until now could only be reduced through liposuction. Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj, a New York City based facial plastic surgeon, believes Kybella has the potential to be a game changer in non-invasive and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatments.

"Kybella is another tool in our arsenal of non-surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic treatments and is the only non-surgical treatment created for sub-mental fat, or excess fat under the chin," reports Dr. Slupchynskyj. "Once the FDA approves a product for use in one area of the human body, physicians may also use it as an 'off-shelf' product to treat other areas if it will be beneficial to the patient. In this case, it would be areas of fat accumulation anywhere in the face or body." Dr. Slupchynskyj continues, "Whether Kybella will be a game changer, time will tell, once it is tested in the community. It has a lot of merit and the results are impressive."
