FabricTraditions Celebrates 25th Anniversary with New Made-In-America Collection to Benefit Military Families

FabricTraditions , a leading supplier of printed fabrics for America's $30 billion home-sewing and craft market, is celebrating its 25thAnniversary with a Made-In-America collection, "Creating New Traditions."  Available at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and Joann.com late-January 2014, a portion of the line's sales will be donated to The National Military Family Association.

NEW YORK, Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Two thousand thirteen marked fabric producer FabricTraditions' 25th Anniversary.  The company has chosen to commemorate with the launch of a fabric collection that's particularly significant to the people who most contributed to their success. According to the company's co-founder, Dom Seddio, "We developed the Creating New Traditions 100% Made-In-America line to honor our American employees, vendors and customers, as well as our military."  A percentage of fabric sales will benefit The National Military Family Association.

Seddio adds, "We chose the association because it's the only national organization that represents officer and enlisted families, all military branches, as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Public Health Service. It's earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for 10 years, a distinction that only 1% of U.S. charities merit. Our hope is that we can continue this program long term."

The initial collection will consist of 26 new prints.  Subsequent collections will be introduced quarterly.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the nation's leading fabric and craft retailer with more than 800 stores in 49 states, will retail the collection and feature the fabrics in their Jo-Ann Fashion Fusion magazine. The "Creating New Traditions" collection will be easily identified in-store by custom-printed deep blue board-ends that call out Made-In-America.

Nan Harding, also a FabricTraditions' co-founder, explained that the choice of a Made-In-America line is on-trend with American sentiment. "According to Consumer Reports' 'Made-In-America' article, given a choice between a product made in the U.S. and an identical one made abroad, 78% of Americans would rather buy the American products.  So we developed this program working with several of our domestic partners.  It's 100% American made from domestic cotton at US engraving and printing facilities." She continues, "Sewing has always been on-trend with the Made-In-America Movement. It's a pioneer skill set that is as American as apple pie. Both Made-In-America proponents and home-sewers prize getting back to basics and are fueled by independence, creativity and pride in craft."

Harding predicts a bright future for sewing and the program and references The New York Times Back to the Simple Life interview with a new sewing devotee, "It's hands on, getting back to the basics," Ms. Brown said, "and it makes people feel that they are not falling victim to the machine."
