for the participating national wireless carriers

CHICAGO, March 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — ExteNet Systems, the leading independent provider of distributed networks enabling indoor and outdoor wireless connectivity, today announced its role in providing a superior fan experience at the upcoming 2016 NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments, scheduled from March 15 through April 5.

ExteNet's multi-carrier distributed networks will enable advanced broadband wireless service and multimedia capabilities at five prominent venues hosting the 2016 NCAA tournament games including Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana; Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York; Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island; Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Wells Fargo Arena (part of Iowa Events Center) in Des Moines, Iowa.

This enhanced indoor coverage is designed to be seamless for the subscribers of the wireless carriers that have network agreements with ExteNet for the respective venues.

"Mobile devices have become an integral part of the overall fan experience, with people sharing their experiences with friends and family and relying on their devices for real-time information, instant replay and a host of other value-added activities to augment their live event experience," said Ross Manire, President and CEO of ExteNet. "In partnership with our customers, both venue owners and wireless carriers, ExteNet is proud to meet the mobile connectivity needs of NCAA basketball fans by enabling seamless coverage and high-bandwidth capacity for the participating wireless carriers in each of the five prominent venues where we have deployed our distributed networks."

"Our fans and patrons want to stay connected at all times on a high-bandwidth, highly available network and share their live experiences while they're at a game or an event," said Chris Connolly, General Manager of the Iowa Events Center. "We're extremely pleased with ExteNet for their work in delivering a superior indoor network to support widespread smart device usage within our venue."

A top-notch in-venue experience for fans, patrons and students in attendance is a goal for the venue, league and teams. The indoor cellular and wireless networks can exponentially enhance the experiences for today's ultra-digital and always-connected fans. Wireless carriers and Wi-Fi network operators have witnessed a rapid spike in social media and multimedia usage during big events, with fans and patrons often sharing their in-venue experiences both within and outside the venue. For example, at the 2016 pro football championship game, the San Francisco Business Times reported a record 10.1 terabytes of data transferred during the event, which it estimated is the equivalent of the printed collection of the entire Library of Congress.

Besides the 2016 NCAA Women's Final Four, Bankers Life Fieldhouse will also host the 2016 NCAA Women's Division II and III basketball championship games. It will be the first time in history that the same venue will host all three women's basketball divisions.
