Excelsior has licensed the Java technology from Sun Microsystems and started shipping to customers its fully compatible Java SE platform implementation for desktop and enterprise systems.
NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia, Nov. 1, 2005 — Excelsior LLC, a technology leader in producing optimizing compilers and high performance runtime environments, has announced that its implementation of the Java SE platform is certified for 100% compliance with the specification. The company has begun shipping Windows and Linux (IA-32) versions of Excelsior JET 4.0, bearing the Java Compatible logo, to its customers worldwide.
A unique feature of the Excelsior solution is Excelsior JET Optimizer that translates Java application's classes and jars into high performance native executables resistant to reverse engineering. The optimized executables are backed by Excelsior JET Runtime, which is a complete Java runtime environment. The Excelsior JET Installation Toolkit facilitates rapid creation of a complete installation package that includes the optimized Java application and the Excelsior JET Runtime engine. The installations can be easily integrated into any setup generator or powered by the bundled Excelsior Installer.
In the middle of 2005, Excelsior entered into an agreement with Sun Microsystems to become a Java Authorized Licensee of the Java SE platform, and are thus enabled to provide Java SE 1.4.2 and SE 5.0 compatible versions of their products. In order to become fully compliant, Excelsior has licensed Sun's Java SE platform, incorporated the JET Optimizer technology, and successfully run Sun's Java compatibility test suite. This ensures that any Java application that was written for Java SE will run in the JET environment, but will now have the performance and security advantages JET provides.

Pricing and availability
Excelsior JET 4.0 targets Windows and Linux on Intel x86 and compatible hardware. Two Editions are available: Standard, priced from $250 per developer; and Professional, which lists for $900 per developer. No runtime fee applies to deployment of optimized applications to conventional desktop PCs. Deployment to high-end multiprocessor servers and embedded devices is subject to royalties. Academic licenses are available to students and members of the faculty and staff of qualified academic institutions at much reduced prices.
