Endicott College Receives National Recognition for Its Groundbreaking Internship Program

BEVERLY, Mass., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Achieving category recognition for the first time, Endicott College has been ranked one of 22 institutions with a stellar example of Internships/Co-ops in U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges 2017 rankings. The schools included in this category require or encourage students to apply what they're learning in the classroom out in the real world through closely supervised internships or practicums, or through cooperative education.

Endicott also ranked No. 51 in the Regional Universities – North category, improving steadily from No. 66 in 2016, No. 74 in 2015 and No. 86 in 2014. In addition, Endicott has been included in a list of Best Colleges for Veterans and A+ Schools for B Students.

Internship is an integral part of every undergraduate program at Endicott – requiring traditional undergraduate students in every program of study to complete three internships prior to graduation, including a full-time, full-semester internship during the fall of the senior year. A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies. Endicott's unique experiential learning process ensures graduates leave with first-class diplomas, robust resumes, and a clear pathway into the workforce.

According to 2015 employment data:

  • 53% of Endicott students who graduated in 2015 and were employed full-time found their career through internship site or contact
  • 90% of Endicott students who graduated in 2015 and found employment related to their major
  • 98% of Endicott students who graduated in 2015 were either employed, volunteering, participating in the armed forces or continuing education.

"We are thrilled to be nationally recognized in the 2017 U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges," said Dr. Richard E. Wylie, Endicott College President. "We not only have an improved overall ranking from last year, but we're featured for our strongest attribute: internships and experiential learning. We pride ourselves on offering our students a vibrant academic experience that will prepare them for success post-graduation, and it's very gratifying to be recognized nationally for that."

US News uses 15 criteria to calculate the rankings, which fall into the six broad categories including graduation and retention rate, alumni giving, reputation, financial resources, student selectivity and faculty resources.
