EMPSi Receives Award for Renewable Energy Development

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 2, 2011 — Climate Change Business Journal® (CCBJ), a business research publication providing strategic business intelligence to the climate change industry, honored Environmental Management Planning Solutions, Inc. (EMPSi) with the CCBJ Award for Project Merit: Renewable Development.

EMPSi was recognized for its work with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona on the Restoration Design Energy Project. The project's objective is to foster environmentally responsible production of renewable energy.

"We are proud to be partnering with the BLM on such an exciting project. It will provide proactive solutions to improve the siting of renewable energy projects, making it a win-win situation for energy developers, communities, and the environment," said David Batts, EMPSi's project manager. "We hope that what we are doing in Arizona sets the standard for renewable energy development in the West and throughout the United States."

BLM Arizona and EMPSi are working on an environmental impact statement (EIS) that will examine already disturbed and previously developed lands in Arizona for potential reclamation and use for energy generation. The EIS will also study the characteristics that determine optimal suitability for siting renewable energy projects, designate areas for development, and analyze potential impacts on environmental and cultural resources in each area. The resulting development will make strides in bringing Arizona closer to the state goal of sourcing 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2025. Funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the project is already underway and is expected to be completed in 2012.

"In this fast-emerging industry just about everyone by definition is an early mover and a risk taker and thereby deserving of recognition, but certain companies and organizations stood out in 2010," said Grant Ferrier, president of Environmental Business International Inc. (San Diego), the publisher of Climate Change Business Journal.
