Element K Launches Exclusive Online Community for Instructors

ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 6, 2011 — Capitalizing on and embracing social media technologies, Element K has introduced InstructorHub. InstructorHub is a unique online community and resource center designed for instructors to connect with one another, share best practices, access valuable resources, and improve their instruction. In less than two months, InstructorHub membership has grown to more than 600 members representing more than 50 countries, with membership requests still occurring daily.

"The rapid pace of membership growth on InstructorHub demonstrates the demand from instructors worldwide for an outlet to interact with one another and their content partners to exchange ideas," said Jeffrey Felice, Vice President of Training Channel Enablement at Element K. "InstructorHub meets this demand, providing a truly unique resource for instructors that other training content providers do not offer."

InstructorHub enables instructors to interact with one another utilizing a host of Web 2.0 features, including discussion forums, blog entries, news postings, event calendars, job boards, and personal chat and messaging capabilities. Using these features, instructors can exchange information and insight on instruction techniques, courseware content, industry trends, and even job opportunities. Members can invite their colleagues to InstructorHub, share InstructorHub content via Facebook and Twitter, and even share photos and videos with other members.

"With social media on the rise, InstructorHub could not have come at a more perfect time! This site provides instructors from all over the world the opportunity to connect with 'like minds' on various issues," said Marcie Leggett, a software applications instructor at Knowlogy Corporation in Falls Church, Virginia. "It is an excellent arena to network and see how other instructors develop and teach similar courses."

Element K is one of the first organizations in the learning industry to start using Web 2.0 or social media technologies. InstructorHub incorporates a combination of blogs, forums, social network profiles, micro-messaging, social bookmarking, video-sharing, and more. In addition to these interactive features for instructors, InstructorHub also contains a resource center that acts as a central location for classroom instructional aids. This area is filled with course outlines, course data files, instructor support documentation (including exam mapping documents, assessment questions, and course set-up documents), an archive of past webinars, and even a demo center where instructors can evaluate products for potential classroom use.

Over the upcoming months, Element K will provide access to subject matter experts from all their major course content areas and technology partners through groups within InstructorHub. Group members will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive chats and events covering their specific content areas, all designed to improve their knowledge and ability to successfully instruct their students.
