e-Cycle Teams Up with St. Louis Cardinals to Recycle Fans' Used Cell Phones

The CEO of the leading mobile buyback and recycling company will toss a ceremonial first pitch to help encourage fans to recycle their used devices during the St. Louis Cardinals upcoming home stand.

NEW ALBANY, Ohio, April 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — e-Cycle, the leading mobile buyback, data security and recycling company, is partnering with the St. Louis Cardinals to celebrate Earth Day and participate in the organization's 4th annual Green Week. The program, April 22 through April 29, is designed to promote recycling both inside and outside of Busch Stadium.

The e-Stewards Certified recycler is collecting used cell phones at the ball games Friday through Sunday (April 26, 27 and 28), when the Cardinals play host to the Pittsburgh Pirates. When fans turn in their used phones, e-Cycle will remove any sensitive data and recycle the devices. All proceeds from the collection of the cell phones at the games will go to Cardinals Care, the team's nonprofit foundation dedicated to caring for kids. All donations will be processed through the e-Cycle Foundation, e-Cycle's non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating charitable giving through revenues generated from mobile recycling programs.

e-Cycle Founder and CEO Christopher Irion has been selected to throw the honorary first pitch at Saturday's game to help encourage fan participation.

"We consider it a tremendous honor to work with such a storied franchise as the St. Louis Cardinals," Irion said. "The team's commitment to green initiatives aligns with our goal of minimizing the amount of e-waste that accumulates from millions of discarded mobile devices."

"In addition, I'm working on my curve ball and am confident it will hit the strike zone," Irion added.

e-Cycle has recycled more than 12 million mobile devices for enterprise clients, kept more than 250,000 tons of toxic e-waste out of landfills, and greatly reduced unnecessary carbon emissions and energy waste through reuse of mobile devices.  Additionally, e-Cycle provides the industry's highest standards and practices for eradicating and protecting private data. Its high-security work environment and processes have been meticulously designed to maintain the utmost protection of confidential information.

This is the first year that e-Cycle has participated in the Cardinals green initiative. Since 2008, the Cardinals have diverted nearly 2,000 tons of solid waste from local landfills, and Busch Stadium continues to become more energy efficient.
