DoD Lodging Saves Defense Travel System Tax Dollars

Department of Defense Travel System (DTS) budget gets a hand, saving DoD Lodging expenses and providing better housing for Soldiers

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15, 2011 — The DoD Lodging system has undergone a large transformation process. Last year alone California-based TDY Lodging saved the federal government millions of dollars in contracts and lodging by offering reduced rates and a free reservation portal for government travelers. The Defense Travel System's lifecycle budget, currently in the billions of dollars, has seen a substantial savings through TDY Lodging's reservation portal.

Matthew Foster of TDY Lodging stated, "We're a fan of the Defense Travel System, and we're constantly developing more efficient ways to save taxpayer dollars while providing better lodging for military and government travelers. All program expenses are paid for by reputable lodging providers who cater to a specific location like Marriott ExecuStay, which offers MacDill AFB Lodging, or TDY Stay housing at Fort Huachuca; they join TDY Lodging and offer rates at or below the per diem lodging rate. We're a free service to the government, which saves millions of tax dollars in the process."

With the federal deficit at an all-time high, the Defense Travel System has undergone scrutiny and challenges in an effort to cut costs wherever possible. The DoD Lodging system built by TDY Lodging is a free system for the federal government, and provides the widest range of DoD lodging options for military travelers. Accommodations include hotels and extended stays, corporate housing, and furnished apartments at over 100 locations nationwide and overseas.
