Digital Vision's THOR Feels the Need for Speed at HPA

CacheIO's All Flash Array fills the Void in the Desert

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Since its inception, Digital Vision has excelled in providing the best image processing technology available to the broadcast, film and post production industry. With program providers now requiring 4K deliverables, the resulting complex calculations needed a boost. To address higher resolution formats Digital Vision created THOR, a hardware accelerator designed to enhance their applications and process images in real time or faster. Now they needed a high speed storage system to complete their 4K workflows.

Having already worked with CacheIO to support the high bandwidth needs of installed Nucoda grading systems, the two companies are once again teaming together at the 2015 HPA Retreat to demonstrate the combined speed of THOR and CacheIO. With bandwidth up to 140Gbps from a single 2RU array, the CacheIO FA-140 delivers uncompromised speed for Digital Vision's image processing solutions. Patrick Morgan, Product Marketing Manager for Digital Vision explains, "We knew a potential bottleneck with THOR would be disk throughput. So we turned to the CacheIO flash array where we achieve real time processing in 4K. When we require off the charts fast, we look to CacheIO as they have always delivered."

Configurable with up to 48TB and up to 18 x 8GFC ports in a 2RU footprint, the CacheIO FA-140 storage array provides bandwidth of up to 140/Gbps (16GFC also available). Fully configured the system delivers up to 9 simultaneous uncompressed 4K streams (24fps/50MB frames). The high speed array is currently supporting uncompressed 4K requirements at post production, film restoration, broadcast, and remote production facilities.
