Daylight Medical's New Portable, Powerful UVC Technology Disinfects High-Touch Surfaces in Seconds

MoonBeam3's adjustable UVC heads allow germicidal light to be positioned perpendicularly to target surfaces allowing fast, effective disinfection and reducing the risk of cross contamination.

CLEVELAND, March 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Daylight Medical is pleased to announce the launch of MoonBeam3 Disinfection Technology, a practical innovation proven to decrease germs contributing to hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). In a 180-second cycle, MoonBeam3 achieves a 3-5 log* reduction (99.9 to 99.999%) in pathogens such as MRSA, VRE, MDR-gram negative, Norovirus and C.diff spores. The automated technology is designed for seamless integration into the demanding workflow of Environmental Services (EVS) departments, providing rapid and effective room cleans.

MoonBeam3 is lightweight, portable and simple to operate.

MoonBeam3's portable, compact form factor houses three individually adjustable UVC heads, each generating a broad umbrella of intense, 254 nanometer wavelength germicidal light. The articulating heads can be positioned vertically and horizontally from one foot off the ground to more than seven feet high. This versatility enables users to easily place the heads where needed, enabling multiple surfaces to be simultaneously disinfected with maximum UVC exposure. MoonBeam3 eliminates long cycle times, effectively disinfecting targeted surfaces in as little as 90 seconds. Users can also select three, five and ten minute applications.

"MoonBeam3 addresses the two most problematic aspects of typical disinfection options: the time required to disinfect and the availability of the equipment," said Rick Dayton, President of Daylight Medical. "MoonBeam3's small footprint coupled with its affordable price point enables placement on multiple EVS carts, floors or departments, allowing easy access for routine cleaning procedures of the patient bed area, bathrooms, work stations on wheels – really, anywhere in the hospital robust disinfection is needed."

Because MoonBeam3 is simple and safe to operate, EVS staff can be easily and quickly trained to immediately incorporate it into daily cleaning.  In just four steps, the system is ready: (1) power it on, (2) position the heads, (3) place the remote cover outside the room (which contains motion and accelerometer safeguards), and (4) press start.

"MoonBeam3 targets the 17 touch points the CDC recommends disinfecting frequently to avoid cross contamination," said Dayton. "Staff need to disinfect these surfaces as often as possible, and it can't take a PHD to know how to do it. Our technology is light-switch simple, but powerful, making positioning easy and eliminating long exposure time, but still achieving high efficacy results."

Manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio, MoonBeam3 joins SKY 6Xi and SKY 7Xi in Daylight Medical's product line of infection control products. SKY Disinfection Technology also uses UVC light to disinfect mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs.
