CreditDonkey Identifies Three Outstanding Credit Card Deals for the Holidays

CreditDonkey announces three credit cards that pay big at the checkout this holiday season

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8, 2011 – With price being the most important factor to 63% of holiday shoppers, according to Harris Interactive, credit card companies are serving up big incentives to try to get consumers to switch credit cards. CreditDonkey, a credit card comparison site, reviewed 29 of the most popular cash-back cards and came up with some startling and downright dizzying statistics.

To even the playing field, all cards were rated on the same basic premise – an American family spending $500 this holiday season. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), $365.34 was the average spent just on Black Friday weekend in 2010.

With the recession weighing heavily on all family budgets, more consumers are opting to spend at discount stores instead of department stores. Instead, CreditDonkey recommends that consumers look at the myriad of cards that are handing out generous rewards.

CreditDonkey recommends these cards doing double duty with no annual fee:

  • Chase Freedom offers 5% cash back on up to $1,500 spent on dining, department stores, movie theaters and charitable organizations from 10/1/2011 to 12/31/2011. Plus, you earn $200 bonus cash back after you make $500 in purchases in your first 3 months.

That is a total of $225 in rewards when you open an account and spend just $500 this holiday season in eligible categories such as department stores.

  • Citi Dividend World offers 5% cash back on department, clothing, electronics and toy store purchases from 10/1/2011 to 12/31/2011 upon enrollment. Plus, you earn $100 cash back after $500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

That is a total of $125 in rewards when you open an account and spend just $500 this holiday season in eligible categories such as electronics and toy stores.

  • Discover Open Road offers 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants all year long. Plus, you receive a $150 Restaurant.com gift certificate with your first purchase — perfect for a meal with the in-laws.

That is a total of $160 in value – $10 in rewards and a $150 Restaurant.com gift certificate when you open an account and spend just $500 this holiday season on eligible categories such as restaurants and gas stations.

However, for the big holiday spenders, the most lucrative card is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. It has a $95 annual fee (waived for the first year) but worth mentioning as it exceeds the competition in overall reward value. Earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months – enough points to redeem for $500 cash back. That is the equivalent of an iPad as a stocking stuffer.

"Savvy consumers can earn lucrative rewards by comparing credit offers," said Charles Tran, founder of CreditDonkey, "and the more you spend this Christmas, the better the rewards on each of these cards."
