Creative Recycling Systems of North Carolina Achieves e-Stewards® Certification

SEATTLE, Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Creative Recycling Systems (CRS), a leader in IT Asset Management and electronics recycling, announced today that their Raleigh, North Carolina facility has achieved the e-Stewards® Electronic Recycling Certification, a commitment to responsible recycling, environmental protection and international legal compliance.

e-Stewards is a globally accredited, third-party audited certification program developed by the Basel Action Network (BAN), with support from other environmental groups and industry leaders. CRS chose to pursue e-Stewards Certification because it is the only e-waste recycling standard that assures customers that no e-waste will be exported to developing countries, no toxic materials will end up in landfills or incinerators, and it stands as a global baseline for the protection of confidential data housed in electronic equipment.

CRS is uniquely qualified to service government agencies, financial institutions, educational entities, and any company in the U.S. for end-of-life e-scrap management, meeting the highest standards for protecting the environment and ensuring corporate social responsibility.  Their deep understanding of the regulatory environment enables elimination of risk from the recycling and asset management process and allows for the delivery of true solutions that exceed customer expectations.  CRS has already invested in some of the most technologically advanced materials recovery equipment in the world.

"We know that in order to live in a sustainable world leaders have to lead by providing the best solutions," said Joe Yob, Senior Vice President for CRS.  "With this philosophy in place it was clear we needed to qualify for the 'gold standard' a nd become e-Stewards Certified."

CRS is in the process of certifying their additional 12 facilities and holds R2/RIOS, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS18001 certifications.

"We don't just hand e-Stewards Certificates out to anybody," said Jim Puckett Executive Director of BAN.  "CRS joins a select group of electronics recyclers that can show you where all of their e-waste goes and that it is processed safely and responsibly.  They will continually be required to pass the test of being among the most socially and environmentally responsible recyclers on earth.  We welcome them."

About e-Stewards® Certification
The e-Stewards Certification program, created by the Basel Action Network (BAN), formally recognizes electronic recyclers that adhere to environmentally and socially responsible practices when recovering hazardous electronic materials. It is the first such program backed by environmental organizations and major corporations alike. The accredited third-party audited certification program is supported by the USEPA and is endorsed by Greenpeace USA, the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the Electronics Take Back Coalition and 68 other environmental organizations.  It has also drawn the public support of major corporate "e-Stewards Enterprises" including Alcoa, Samsung, Bank of America, Capital One Financial Corp. and Wells Fargo.

About Basel Action Network
Founded in 1997, the Basel Action Network is a 501(c)3 charitable organization of the United States, based in Seattle, WA. BAN is the world's only organization focused on confronting the global environmental justice and economic inefficiency of toxic trade and its devastating impacts. Today BAN serves as the information clearinghouse on the subject of waste trade for journalists, academics, and the general public. Through its investigations, BAN uncovered the tragedy of hazardous electronic waste dumping in developing countries. For more information, see BAN.org.
