Corbett Group Homes and Sister Agency The R.I.S.E. Program Bring Healing Resources to Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

Launch in California brings crucial programs and safe houses to underserved population with grand opening and open house scheduled for May 6, 2014, 3 pm – 7 pm

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Corbett Group Homes, Inc. (http://www.corbettgrouphomes.org/), an established therapeutic residential program provider in Santa Clara County since 2001, has opened its fourth licensed home in the state of California, specializing in commercially sexually exploited children (CSEC). This is the fourth residential program under the umbrella of the Corbett Group Homes, Inc. family. Corbett Group Homes, Inc. mission statement declares that the group home should be an intervention, not a destination. Referrals for this new location will begin to be accepted May 1, 2014 for placement May 13, 2014.

The R.I.S.E. Program

Corbett Group Homes partner agency The R.I.S.E Program, Inc. (San Jose, CA) will soon launch its DROP-IN CENTER "RISING UP," and will begin accepting referrals May 13, 2014. The R.I.S.E Program (http://www.riseprogram.org/) is a new non-profit organization founded in the San Francisco Bay Area (San Mateo County / Santa Clara County) to provide tools and resources for local youth to break away from the enslavement of sexual exploitation, and evolve from victims to leaders. Currently, both counties are limited in their resources options for CSEC. This drop-in center will be the second in all of Northern California, with MISSSEY, located in Oakland, CA, being the only other provider.

Youth who are commercially sexually exploited are frequently incarcerated – furthering their trauma, and have an average age of entry of 13 years old. Corbett Group Homes, Inc. and The R.I.S.E. Programs will be the only programs in the state of California that will offer services to both females AND males. The model openly acknowledges, respects and honors the identities and sexuality of youth who are LGBTQ, and is the sole provider in the state incorporating the "Survivor-Leader" model similar to AA/NA manifestos and is structured after GEMS™ in New York, NY.

Previously, on February 1, 2014, The R.I.S.E. Program launched The R.I.S.E. Thrift Shop in San Jose. All profit gained from the R.I.S.E Thrift Shop directly funds the R.I.S.E Drop-In Center – where the youth are RISING UP and reassuming control over their lives. The R.I.S.E Program believes that our youth are Resilient, Inspired, Strong and Empowered, and their goal is to assist victims of CSE (Commercial Sexual Exploitation) during the recovery process. The CSEC population is often actively pursued and controlled by criminals, in addition to facing the stigma and shame associated with being commercially sexually exploited. They experience extreme levels of trauma that can result in strong bonds with their exploiters. This strong bond makes it difficult to engage youth, and mirrors the connection created in domestic violence relationships.

The R.I.S.E. Residential Program will be truly unique in design and development, offering unconditional acceptance, non-traditional therapeutic methodologies (including expressive arts) and an empowerment modality of working with the youth from within.

All clients who are referred to the R.I.S.E Program Drop-In Center will be offered the full spectrum of center services, including life skills development and self-sufficiency training, enrichment and recreational activities, as well as vital connections to resources and the opportunity for long-term sustainability.

Corbett Group Homes, Inc. and The R.I.S.E. Program are both California Corporation Registered Non-Profits 501(c)(3).
