Latest BSD SpecLink(R) Update Includes Thousands of Hyperlinks to the IHS Standards Store, Enabling Users to View and Purchase Referenced Standards Directly
ATLANTA and ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 2, 2005 — Building Systems Design, Inc. (BSD) of Atlanta and IHS Inc. (IHS – http://www.ihs.com) announced today the release of the Fall 2005 edition of BSD SpecLink(R), which includes thousands of new hyperlinks to the IHS Standards Store.
BSD SpecLink is a software product used nationwide by thousands of architects, engineers and other design professionals to produce and maintain detailed construction specifications. Based on an underlying relational database structure instead of word processing, SpecLink includes guide text for hundreds of building product categories and references to thousands of construction industry standards. SpecLink references these industry standards instead of repeating relevant content, keeping the guide text and edited project specifications more concise. Until this latest product release, architectural and engineering users who needed access to the actual standards from any of the 185 sponsoring organizations had to acquire them by contacting each organization individually.
Under a new agreement with IHS, BSD has provided hyperlinks to referenced standards via the IHS Standards Store. In the current SpecLink release, 1,844 of the 2,173 referenced standards are accessible through this single site. In most cases, a synopsis of the standard is available and the document itself can be purchased and downloaded online for immediate viewing from IHS. The remaining 300+ standards are available via the sponsoring organizations' websites, and in a few cases the documents are free.
Because BSD SpecLink is comprehensively updated each quarter and IHS maintains both current and previously issued versions of the standards in its database, SpecLink users are assured that their construction specifications and reference standards are synchronized and up-to-date.
