"The House Where Isadora Danced" Envisions Different Life for Iconic Artist

NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2009 — Take a step back in time and follow an introspective young woman as she navigates through a life forever intertwined with the dancing of the infamous mother of modern dance, Isadora Duncan, in "The House Where Isadora Danced" (published by AuthorHouse), the new historical fiction by J.O. Jeppson.

The year is 1898, and Casselda Carver is a lanky redhead growing up in the provincial village of Powetville. At age 16, Cass, as she is known to friends and family, has proven herself to be a diligent student, graduating as the valedictorian of her class. Her wealthy Aunt Bettine comes to visit and informs Cass that she will be providing her niece with the finest higher education in New York City, thus enabling Cass to achieve her dreams of becoming a teacher.

After Cass and Aunt Bettine move to New York, Cass is treated to a special trip to the Vannlin House, a magnificent stone mansion occupied by the prestigious Vannlin family. The purpose of their visit is to view a performance by Isadora Duncan, a young dancer who eschews the precision and rules of traditional dance in favor of a more modern, free-spirited artistic expression that will prove groundbreaking in the art world. The crowd assembled at Vannlin house is enraptured by what they see:

Isadora danced like a woman who had stepped from an ancient painting into real life, finding joy, and then agony. She whirled across the lawn, raised her arms to the sky, and then dropped to her haunches, head in her hands, and was motionless.

Cass becomes acquainted with the various members of the Vannlin family, in particular their handsome, blue-eyed son, Maurice. As the years pass she keeps track of both Isadora and Maurice, and eventually finds herself crossing paths with them in Europe. By this time Isadora is a world-renowned performer with a successful school for girls, and Maurice has remained infatuated with the enigmatic dancer since that fateful afternoon at Vannlin house. Meanwhile, Cass has been harboring her own feelings for Maurice and vows that they will be married.

When Cass gets everything she thought she wanted, she discovers that things aren't always what they seem. Follow her on a captivating journey as she unravels the mysteries of the Vannlin family while trying to maintain her fierce independence. What secrets will she uncover? Find out in the pages of "The House Where Isadora Danced," a work of fiction that expertly combines intrigue, romance and historical detail.
