There is nothing rare about an education degree, editor Carrie Sealey-Morris explains, "Many colleges and universities today began as simple 'normal schools,' academies to train public school teachers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries." In fact, most major institutions have some type of teacher education program offered through a college or school of education. However, a strong education program, that not only gives future teachers a strong grounding in theory and practice but also leads to certification, typically includes a residential program. Due to this requirement, most students find it more convenient to attend a college or university in their home state. Value Colleges' rankings help direct students to the most affordable colleges in their state and across the nation.

Value Colleges is an independent, online resource with one mission: to help prospective students find the best educational value in their chosen field. At Value Colleges, future students can find rankings for the top investments in online and residential college degrees, advice on making the best decisions about finances when in college, and explanations of commonly-misunderstood aspects of college costs.
