New Children's Book Reveals True Spirit of Christmas

Eleanor Allen Shares the Story of Little Mouse Monk's Christmastime Adventures Around New York City

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, Pa., Oct. 15, 2009 — Meet Little Mouse Monk, named by his parents who thought he looked like a furry chipmunk. One winter, this little mouse becomes incredibly curious about the world outside his nest-home in New York City. Follow him on his adventures in "Mouse Monk in a Christmas Adventure" (published by AuthorHouse), the new children's book by Eleanor Allen, as he explores the big city and learns the secret of Christmas.

Endearing and filled with colorful illustrations that capture the excitement of Christmastime in the city, "Mouse Monk in a Christmas Adventure" details Little Mouse Monk's journey as he discovers the sights and sounds of New York. After sliding down his apartment's drainpipe, Little Mouse Monk is surprised to see many new things, including colorful little lights, plentiful trees and Santa Clauses with big black pots collecting money from strangers. All these strange and beautiful objects make him wonder what is so special about this time of year.

Then, Little Mouse Monk comes across a window display with a live man and woman dressed in long robes and a donkey. Bewildered, Little Mouse Monk stops in awe before realizing he must return home to his likely worried parents. Grateful to see their son again, Little Mouse Monk's mother and father tell him about all of the sights that he saw in the city and how they relate to Christmas. Even after their explanation, Little Mouse Monk is still confused about the real meaning of Christmas until he goes to church with his family on Christmas Eve to witness the reenactment of Jesus' birth. Allen writes:

Somehow, I knew then that Baby Jesus was a special gift from God, not only for his parents, Mary and Joseph, but for EVERYONE, yes, for everyone in the whole world. God gave Baby Jesus to all of us to teach us to be good and kind and to love everyone – the way God loves us. Baby Jesus was a "special gift of love" to everyone. Right then I knew what Mom Mouse meant about something special happening at Christmas. That "something special" was the birth of Baby Jesus and the gift of Love that He brought to us. And, at that moment, I understood what all those wonderful things I had seen in the city really meant.

Perfect for families and children of all ages, "Mouse Monk in a Christmas Adventure" is a charming story that reveals the true spirit of Christmas.

Eleanor Allen is an ordained minister and chose to celebrate her 40th year of ordination by publishing "Mouse Monk in a Christmas Adventure," her first book. Her ministry has called her to churches in Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Illinois and Ohio.
