Chicago's UNDER THE RADAR and Harrison McEldowney Celebrate Tony Awards' Hairspray Off Broadway Success

CHICAGO, June 5, 2012 — For the first time ever, Sunday's Tony Awards program on CBS will feature a live segment of Hairspray via satellite from aboard the Royal Caribbean International's Oasis of the Seas®. Hairspray received eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and it is the first Broadway musical extension adaptation for a cruise ship.

Chicago firm UNDER THE RADAR, and its Senior Creative Director Harrison McEldowney are responsible for the entirely new cruise version of Hairspray to be featured live on Sunday evening. The show is currently running in the grand Opal Theater on the Royal Caribbean International Oasis of the Seas®.

The 2012 Tony Awards, hosted for the third consecutive year by Neil Patrick Harris, will mark 66 years of excellence On Broadway as well as the continuing growth and success Off Broadway on Sunday, June 10th.

UNDER THE RADAR and McEldowney combined to direct and choregraph the unique Hairspray adaptation that is shown live each week to thousands of passengers. The UNDER THE RADAR team will be especially celebrating this year's Tony winners and their own Off Broadway success with Hairspray.

McEldowney was nominated for an Emmy® Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in 2008. He was nominated for "Outstanding Achievement for Individual Excellence on Camera" in the documentary recreation of a 1940's ballet based on the Reverend Billy Sunday, a religious figure and former Chicago White Sox baseball player.
