Chess Champ Says Game Teaches Children to Be Winners

Unique back-to-school camp provides meaningful lessons: Brains Before Bullets; Think It Out, Don't Shoot It Out!; Heads Up, Pants Up, Grades Up and Never Give Up!; Cheating Is for Losers!

ATLANTA, July 29, 2011 — Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson, like many other citizens, has been saddened by the harm inflicted on many children by the Atlanta Public Schools' cheating scandal. "This has given me a chance to rededicate and reenergize my life to making sure every child I can reach will understand they are precious and they can succeed at the highest levels," said Hudson.

WHO: BE SOMEONE founder Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson will bring his innovative 5-day, unique use of the game of chess to teach lessons that can make a difference in young lives. Young people from all over the metro Atlanta community are participating.

WHAT: Five days of leadership and communication training and chess and life lessons being chanted, rapped about and full of positive energy and fun for boys and girls ages 9 and up. Imagine a life-size chess board where children fulfill the roles of the king, bishops and rook. The interactive action is great fun. Kids learn and have a blast at the same time. Lesson: There's no cheating here! Cheating is not something winners do!

WHEN: August 1 through August 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: BE SOMEONE Training Center, 949 Stephenson Road, Stone Mountain (30087)

HOW: Media representatives are always welcome. No appointment needed. Interviews are available with Orrin as well as the student-participants (and parents if available). Students excitedly learning while playing the life-size chess game makes great video.

Note: If you have not met Orrin, check out this video clip for an introduction. He makes for a captivating interview. His lifetime goal is to teach one million youngsters the game of chess and remind them that they can "BE SOMEONE," no matter what circumstances life has handed them.
