Camp Pocono Trails Awards Camperships to Winners of Annual Essay Contest

$48,320 Worth of Camperships Awarded to Four Deserving Kids in 9th Annual New Image Camp Essay Contest: "Imagine Me! I'm Up for the Challenge!"

NORWOOD, N.J., June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — A quartet of young children earned the chance to change their lives forever, thanks to their own powerful words and the support of one of the country's top weight-loss camps. Annette Nieves, 16, from Keansburg, NJ, Zola Jarrett-Henry, 13, from Brooklyn, NY, George Briggs, 12, from Annandale, VA and Jeison Walker, 13, from Tallahassee, FL, won the Imagine Me! I'm Up for the Challenge: 9th Annual New Image Camp Essay Contest. In their respective essays, the kids detailed how they are eager to live a healthier lifestyle, lose weight, and build self-esteem – all while having fun. Their prize: a nine-week campership (June 15 – August 17) at Camp Pocono Trails in Reeders, PA, one of the only the ACA accredited weight-loss camps in the U.S. The value of each campership is $12,080.

Applicants were required to submit an original essay of no more than 500 words with the title, "Imagine Me! I'm Up for the Challenge at New Image Camp." The contest was judged by a panel of experts based on elements including compelling nature of the story, clarity, and creativity. Essay entries were accompanied by a photograph.

"I'm up for the challenge because I'd rather lose weight than die from obesity," Jarrett-Henry wrote. "I want people to acknowledge me once in my life like a seed in the ground, just waiting to escape from its shell and bloom into something new and beautiful."

"Imagine me, tall and proud, entering a new chapter in my life, gaining new experiences, making new friends, and learning how to live a better life," Nieves shared. "I know I am up for the challenge of running a mile. I'm up for the challenge of waking up bright and early, learning how to control my eating, and learning how to live a healthy life. Imagine me… walking through my school hallway, not having to worry about people laughing at me. I'm up for the challenge of learning how to live my happiest life."

Tony Sparber, owner, founder, and director of New Image Camps said, "We love offering kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp and lose weight the chance to better themselves. The annual essay contest awards children that need a helping hand in order to live healthier and happier lives, the opportunity to do so. I guarantee that campers will come home in the best physical and mental shape of their lives!"
