'Bitter Sweet Secret Assignment': Nita Persaud's Thrilling New Novel Traverses Global Business, Ancestral Secrets and Madness

HELMOND, Netherlands, Nov. 30, 2009 — "Bitter Sweet Secret Assignment" (published by AuthorHouse), the suspenseful new novel by Nita Persaud, chronicles the psychological odyssey of a woman tormented by the ghosts of her past and the secrets that she would die to keep.

Lena Hellman is a young, beautiful journalist of half-Jewish, half-Indian heritage traveling to Suriname in South America before the outbreak of revolution. In Suriname, she falls for young businessman Chris Nepal, but the two lovers are torn apart by the man's vindictive father on their wedding night. Lena's marital bliss becomes her living nightmare as she is abandoned while impregnated with Chris' twins. Before long, the turmoil between the two families reaches a boiling point and Lena's brothers are found dead. In her desperate search to find answers, Lena loses one of her twins and the other is put up for adoption when she decides that she must escape to Europe to find a new life.

Lena's past would continue to follow her through many more troubling relationships, including those with an older man suffering from dementia, the Italian missionary Tony Brocelli and Will Baker, a destructive, manipulative man that would shatter the remains of Lena's heart. Clinging to her faith in God, Lena is brought to a convent that houses myriad personalities who suffer from life's great ills. There she is accosted by horrifying scenes of patients in rehabilitation from their broken hearts and told by neurosurgeon Lee Chan that she must commit to her own recovery. Persaud writes:

Everything seemed unreal, and my head was ringing. I got hysterical. I couldn't bear the sight and the suffering. I tried to run back up-stairs to the two old people, but I couldn't because Lee Chan pulled me back by my arm. I push him as he tried to hold me tightly in his arms. I began beating, kicking, and scratching wildly at him.

"Please stay here … they are all suffering just like you…In the beginning they all believed in god and only love and richness… Now they have nothing left except a broken heart … their souls are too far away now." He sulked a little gentlemanly and said, "I don't want this to happen to you … please stay."

Join Lena as she confronts her inner demons, the fragmented pieces of her past and her bloodline in "Bitter Sweet Secret Assignment," a thrilling novel that weaves together discussions of genetics, faith and global business networks in a tale every reader will enjoy.

Nita Persaud was born in South America and has lived in various places within South America and Europe. "Bitter Sweet Secret Assignment" is her first published novel.
