The BestSchools.org Announces Survey on Miracles, with $10,000 Maximum Prize for Proof

CHICAGO, Sept. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Do genuine miracles exist? In an age of scientific proofs, why do so many still retain a belief in the miraculous?

To answer these questions and to bring to light compelling evidence of the truly miraculous, TheBestSchools.org is sponsoring an online survey of readers, with the potential to win a prize between $2,500 and $10,000 for the most remarkable and well-supported miracle since 2000.

"We want to assess what people really believe about miracles, not just whether they exist, but their extent and intensity, and especially how significant a role miracles play in people's lives," says Dr. James Barham, Editor in Chief of TheBestSchools.org. "Against a dismissive scientific worldview, people are often reluctant to share their actual views and experiences of miracles. Through the survey, we seek to give people a voice concerning what they think about miracles. And through the prize, we look to identify to what extent miracles may be supported by compelling evidence."

After completing the Miracle Survey, to be considered for the Miracle Prize applicants must:

  1. Upload a one- to three-minute video on YouTube describing a miracle that has occurred since 2000.
  2. Mention in the video that the application is for TheBestSchools.org's Miracle Prize.
  3. Email the link to the supporting YouTube video and your return email address to miracleprize@thebestschools.org.

Deadline for entry is Dec. 31, 2016. The Prize will be awarded Feb. 1, 2017.

Compelling videos will have their applicants shortlisted for consideration for the prize. The exact amount awarded will not exceed $10,000 and not be lower than $2,500, and will depend on the degree to which the winning miracle is astonishing, demands a supernatural explanation, and is well-supported by confirming evidence.

"TheBestSchools.org continues to address hard, intractable problems at the intersection of the academy and society," says Barham. "Great scientists of the past, everyone from Copernicus to Newton to Faraday to Maxwell, believed in miracles. One reason for this survey and prize is to prompt a more precise inquiry into the relationship between science and miracles."

TheBestSchools.org is the leader in school rankings — K-12, university, and post graduate—providing millions of readers with the information they need to make informed choices for their educations.
