BA-Insight Announces the Release of Longitude 2.0 for SharePoint Portal

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., April 6, 2005 — BA-Insight, an Innovator in Enterprise Search Technology, announced today the official release of Longitude Search for SharePoint Portal. Longitude's innovative, patent-pending technology defines a new category of Enterprise Search.

"The biggest challenge of Enterprise Search is User Experience," explained Martin Muldoon, VP of Sales and Marketing. "Users are accustomed to searching on the Internet and expect an experience that is at least as good, if not better than searching on Google."

"Imagine clicking on a Google link and being brought to a Web Site Home Page rather than the relevant page. This is the state of Enterprise Search today," continued Mr. Muldoon.

The impact of poor search and user experience is well documented. Usability expert Jacob Nielson concluded that poor search and usability was the single greatest cause of Portal failures. Laura Ramos, Research Analyst for Forrester Research, also pointed out that Usability and Search were the key stumbling blocks to portal adoption.

"Like other Enterprise Search Engines, SharePoint Search lacks the features and user experience that you get from Internet Search engines," said Tony Malandain, Chief Software Engineer. "Users are not aware of, nor do they care about, the technical challenges associated with manipulating large and complex Enterprise documents."

"Microsoft relies on partners like BA-Insight to extend the infrastructure that they provide in products like SharePoint," declared Mr. Muldoon. "Longitude leverages the customer's investment in SharePoint Portal to provide an Enterprise Search Engine that rivals best-of-breed offerings on the market today."

"The product was named 'Longitude' because the state of Enterprise Search today is similar to that of navigation prior to the 1750s. The intellects of that time were fixated on solving the problem of longitude via astronomy. It was finally solved by a lone clockmaker who approached the problem from a completely different perspective. In the tradition of John Harrison, we intend to do the same," said Mr. Muldoon.
