Windstax Company Profile

1. WindStax™ store electricity even when there is no wind. The generators store up to several days of energy using an advanced power management system. Even when there is no wind, WindStax™ has power on demand. The electricity is 115V AC or 12/24V DC. In fact, the electricity is cleaner and more reliable than most utilities and can run everything from your furnace or air conditioner to sensitive electronics. 2. WindStax™ are self-contained. Each unit arrives fully assembled with the battery and control systems built in. Just tilt up the generator with clear access to the wind, secure it and plug in. They do not require complex footings and foundations. High-performance batteries are extremely safe, spill proof and 100% maintenance free. 3. WindStax™ are non-directional and needs little wind to start operating. That means the turbine works in ever-changing wind directions and in wind speeds as low as 3 miles per hour. The unique low-rpm, high-torque rotor design continues to work safely in very high wind speeds that force traditional wind turbines to shut down. 4. WindStax™ are friendly to the environment. The generators have a small footprint, they are nearly silent at all wind speeds, and are avian friendly. There have been no documented cases of bird, bat, or even bug kills with vertical axis turbines. 5. WindStax™ are friendly to your neighbors. The generators are silent, safe, and, frankly, beautiful. Their design blends into their surroundings while providing good, clean, and free electricity. 6. WindStax™ are government friendly. The units can be installed anywhere with a good wind approach. Most municipal zoning begins with regulations of towers and wind turbines above 60’. As a portable unit, they are not considered a permanent structure under most zoning regulations. 7. WindStax™ need little wind to make and store power. The generators start producing electricity at wind speeds of 4 miles per hour. If the rotor is turning, the generator is working to store electricity. 8. WindStax™ are portable. With little effort, the generators can be moved across the property or across the country. The WindStax™ 3000 weighs less than 1500 pounds. All WindStax™ generators fit within the confines of standard ISO shipping containers 20’ and 40’, and 53’ in length, keeping shipping costs to a minimum. 9. WindStax™ are sustainable. The rotor is built using renewable material combined with advanced composites in a proprietary manufacturing process. All materials including the tower are very lightweight, highly resilient, and strong. We care about our workers too, using low VOCs in the manufacturing process. WindStax use low carbon footprint materials, fasteners, components, and fabrication methods on a mission to achieve LEED, SCAQMD, CARB specifications and VOC compliance. 10. WindStax™ are reliable. Traditional horizontal axis wind turbines are complex machines comprised of thousands of components that involve an extensive international supply chain. WindStax™ uses a small fraction of that many components and has only three moving parts – and WindStax™ are made in the USA. Background Wind power is one of the fastest-growing sources of energy around the world. It is popular because it is abundant and provides many communities with a clean, local source of electricity. Assisted by technological innovation and years of government subsidies, the cost of wind power has fallen sharply, so much so that the industry say that they can sometimes deliver cleaner electricity at prices competitive with power made from fossil fuels. In the United States, which passed Germany to become the country producing the most wind power, the Department of Energy has estimated that wind power could account for 20 percent of the nation’s electricity supply by 2030. While wind turbines have existed for hundreds of years, recent technological advances in materials, aerodynamics, energy generation, and storage has renewed interest in wind turbines based on work done by scientists decades ago. Vertical turbines have distinct advantages over horizontal axis wind turbines including fewer moving parts and the ability to withstand higher wind loads. WindStax are portable and can efficiently harvest wind energy in a much smaller footprint with less environmental impact. In wind tunnel testing and simulation modeling, vertical turbines have proven to be very efficient and cost effective in converting wind energy to electrical energy comparable to traditional windmills. This is particularly true in the small wind energy market including off-grid, stand alone, and supplemental power for homes, agriculture, defense, and commercial use.
