Author Shares His Wife's Fight and Triumph Over Her Medical Condition

A true story of absolute love, total dedication, deep faith, and ultimate recovery and victory against all statistical odds

BALLWIN, Mo., Aug. 3, 2012 — Just like in this year's romantic and touching book-turned-movie The Vow, physical and mental traumas are often overcome when there is equal contribution between medical expertise and the constant support of family, friends and deep faith in the Almighty. In this compelling debut book by author James R. Mullen, A Very Personal Abyss, he shares a deeply moving story close to his heart. Readers will witness how love and faith can be very powerful motivators and medicines. This is the true story of the author's wife's bout and triumph over her illness.

It was in October 2008 when Judy, the author's wife, suffered the first of her brain aneurysms. And then she suffered a second aneurysm – and another one – all three attacks in a seven-month time period. She was hospitalized for a total of more than 3 months and had multiple surgeries. Due to this, she suffered short- and long-term memory loss and other challenges in her cognitive skills, including sensory and physical abilities.

Through this biography, the author invites everyone to witness their journey as this book chronicles in real time her traumas and the reactions and the rehabilitation efforts of the medical communities of St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, and Aurora Rehabilitation Center in Kenosha, WI. This true account details the associated impact on her life and the lives of her family and friends.

About the Author

James Mullen is a first-time published writer, living in Antioch, IL, with his wife, Judy. He is a 69-year-old career Human Resources professional, having previously used his B.A. with an English Major from the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY, principally to support business propositions and arguments in his corporate working lifetime. In recent years, he began to write weekly opinions on a wide variety of subjects to a small audience of family and friends. His motive for doing this was simple – to satisfy his urge to write, and thus entertain that close circle of acquaintances with his personal views. With the multiple brain traumas suffered by his wife, the author's motivation to write elevated to a higher and more important level.
