Argus Brings MLS Security to IBM’s AIX

SAVOY, Ill., Nov. 8, 2004 — Argus Systems Group, an international vendor of security software products, today announced the availability of its PitBull trusted platform security products for the AIX 5L Version 5.2 operating system used on IBM eServer pSeries systems. The PitBull product line provides a trusted platform that is designed to protect servers from malicious attacks that attempt to obtain or alter data and web pages. Trusted operating systems protect servers that contain or have access to classified or confidential information or monetary assets.

PitBull technology running on AIX allows AIX administrators to isolate system resources, applications, and administrative functions so that security holes in applications and CGI scripts cannot be exploited to gain system-wide access. The PitBull product line is currently used in many environments, including government systems, web hosting, application service providing, Internet banking, and other business systems.

PitBull products for the AIX platform are available now and can be purchased and downloaded immediately. The products install as an add-on to the AIX operating system and they maintain system compatibility with all commercial applications.

Trusted platforms such as PitBull are increasingly recognized as mandatory elements of secure systems by leading experts like the National Security Agency, the Gartner Group, and other independent industry analysts. With PitBull now available for AIX, IBM customers gain even more flexible, adaptive, and secure systems in their IT infrastructures.

"While traditional security mechanisms such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems are still useful in many situations, they add cost and complexity, and may impact performance. A trusted operating system provides security in the kernel and avoids many of these compromises," said Dr. Andrew Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Argus Systems Group. "Trusted platforms such as PitBull offer the strongest security available on the market for controlling the actions of both authorized users and intruders." Jones also points out, "Government integrators have been requesting an evaluated MLS capability for IBM platforms, and this product will address that need. IBM is the leader in the server market, and Argus is excited to be working with them to deliver these critical security technologies to the marketplace."

With this development Argus extends its lead as the premier supplier of trusted platforms. Support for the pSeries server line will significantly expand the market for Argus products.

Argus Systems Group is a privately held company headquartered in Savoy, Illinois, and it offers products for a variety of operating systems. With intrusion and cyber threats increasing, the need for better security has never been more critical. Argus remains committed to providing state-of-the-art trusted security software.
