APconnections Integrates CALEA Probe in Commercial Access Point

LAFAYETTE, Colo., March 13, 2008 — APconnections, makers of the popular NetEqualizer Network Traffic Shaping appliance, today announced that the capabilities of its AirEqualizer commercial wireless access point (AP) have expanded to include a CALEA probe.

"We already had a great Access Point dispersed in networks around the world. It was a natural extension to add CALEA functionality with our equipment already in place," said Art Reisman, CEO of APconnections. "Rather than watch our customers purchase CALEA specific solutions at what seem to be inflated prices, we have produced a functional CALEA probe that meets the spirit of the law at minimal extra cost to our customers."

The AirEqualizer Access Point with a CALEA probe will now allow operators to comply with a basic warrant for information about a user on their network by capturing and sending IP communications in real time to a third party. This communication can be captured either by headers alone, or by both headers and content. The AirEqualizer probe will provide basic descriptive tags identifying headers, data, and time stamps, along with HEX or ASCII representation of content data.

APConnections will be rolling out the latest AirEqualizer with the national wireless technology integrator, Computers & Tele-Comm, Inc. (CTC) ). "We were investigating intelligent CALEA edge access to our existing network at Kansas City's Crown Center convention facilities when we discovered the AirEqualizer is a perfect fit for new installations such as Event hotspots or Cyber Cafes and where CALEA conformance is not economical with other technologies. We currently run NetEqualizer in the core but being able to tap Skype and SIP peer-to-peer on AP's at the edge has been a problem. It was an amazing 'aha' moment. The AirEqualizer is a brilliantly simple yet powerful commercial solution. A dramatic yet powerful means to keep our clients in compliance," said Graeme Gibson, CEO of CTC.

AirEqualizers were specifically designed and released as a commercial power over Ethernet access point back in 2006 to eliminate dead spots and slow response times common in 802.11 wireless networks.
