APconnections Announces Plans for URL-Based Shaping on NetEqualizer Line

LAFAYETTE, Colo., Feb. 11, 2009 — APconnections, a leading supplier of plug-and-play bandwidth shaping products, today announced plans to introduce URL-based traffic shaping on its popular NetEqualizer line.

APconnections (http://www.netequalizer.com) gauged interest in such an upgrade in its most recent monthly newsletter, inviting customers and other administrators to share how the feature might fit their needs. Within 24 hours of the invitation, the message from customers was loud and clear, moving forward the plans for URL-based shaping on the NetEqualizer.

Using the current release of the NetEqualizer, administrators have the ability to shape their network traffic by IP address, MAC address, VLAN or subnet. With the addition of URL-based shaping, the product line will now fully meet the demands of co-location operators.

Fitting within APconnections' pre-existing policies against Deep Packet Inspection, the URL-based shaping is not related to DPI or content-based shaping. URLs are public information as they travel across the Internet and are essentially a mapping of an IP address into human readable form. Therefore, URL-based shaping does not require the opening of private data for inspection.

The NetEqualizer is a plug-and-play bandwidth control and WAN/Internet optimization appliance that is flexible and scalable. When the network is congested, NetEqualizer's unique "behavior shaping" technology gives priority to latency sensitive applications, such as VoIP and email. It does it all dynamically and automatically, improving on other bandwidth shaping technology available.

APconnections is a privately held company founded in 2003 and is based in Lafayette, Colorado.
