DANIA, Fla., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — As anti-cyber bullying laws in Australia and around the world continue to gain momentum, more high profile supporters are coming on board. One newcomer to the part is social media superstar, bestselling author and Q Link Wireless CEO, Issa Asad.

Earlier this month, the Australian government introduced a bill that will appoint a commissioner to enforce social media companies to combat cyber bullying. Called the "Enhancing Online Safety for Children Bill", it will tackle online bullying by potentially fining social media companies like Facebook and Twitter $17,000 per day if damaging material is not removed. Moreover, individuals who instigate cyber bullying could be arrested or go to jail.

As the controversy over these laws heat up around the world, supporters like Asad are working overtime to ensure that the message and intent behind them is crystal clear—cyber bullying is a worldwide problem.

"Although cyber bullying may be just pictures or words on a page, those seemingly harmless things that often become dangerous weapons when wielded in the right manner," said Asad.

The statistics surrounding cyber bullying are sobering. While it is a global problem, in the United States alone, more than 42 percent of kids have been bullied online and 53 percent admit to having taken part in cyber bullying in some form or fashion, according to the i-SAFE Foundation.

The impact of cyber bullying is substantial. School attendance, discipline problems, faltering grades, and withdrawal from participation in school functions are just a few of the harms that are cited as a result. However, on a more personal level, cyber bullying can be devastating.

"Cyber bullying has to stop," said Asad. "Someone has to draw the line and say this is where it stops. Enough is enough."

Asad has taken to social media to voice his support for the rumored upcoming laws that could change the landscape of social media and the Internet, if spread worldwide. According to Asad, these laws could also impact businesses and their social media marketing campaigns. "I see these new laws really affecting social media marketing campaigns. It is important for a business to be as transparent as possible on social media," said Asad.

Asad also believes that cyber bullying hurts everyone using social media. "As law makers debate constitutional rights such as free speech, let us hope that they seek to protect those who are vulnerable to the attacks," said Asad.
