Ameritox Experts to Discuss Pathways to Heroin Abuse at National Rx Drug Abuse Summit

Presentation to include former DEA agent and non-profit leader who lost her son to accidental heroin overdose

BALTIMORE, March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — AmeritoxSM, the nation's leader in medication monitoring solutions, will host and lead a panel discussion at the 2015 National Rx Drug Abuse Summit in Atlanta about a new gateway to heroin: opioids prescribed for pain relief. The Summit brings together government officials, educators and health care practitioners to identify strategies for combatting prescription drug abuse.

The presentation will feature Rick Tucker, a former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent, who will provide an overview of the problem along with Ameritox's Director of Medical Affairs, Michael DeGeorge, who will offer data-based analysis of the reach and scope of this escalating abuse. The session will also introduce a face of this epidemic in Toni Torsch, who tragically lost her son to heroin and opioid abuse spurred by a shoulder injury. Torsch is now the founder of the Maryland chapter of Grief Recovery After Substance Passing (GRASP) and the Daniel Carl Torsch Foundation.

"Toni Torsch will certainly help to show the human toll that heroin and prescription drug abuse is taking on families in communities across the country," said Scott Walton, CEO of Ameritox. "We're honored to be working with her and her foundation at the Summit."

The discussion will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7. The National Rx Drug Abuse Summit takes place April 6 through 9 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. This is the second year Ameritox and its subsidiary PRIUM are both Gold Sponsors of the conference.
