Winners in each category will be announced at the second annual award ceremony at the elegant U-Club in gorgeous downtown Santa Barbara on Saturday, August 18.

The star-studded cast will include keynoter actor/author Marilu Henner and a special appearance by Jim Cox of The Midwest Book Review. Once again, the Master of Ceremonies will be radio personality Bill Frank. The entire event will be simulcast worldwide.

To date, this new book Do NOT Invent has won fifteen awards and also became an Amazon best seller the week of its official launch.

The official launch of Do NOT Invent Buggy Whips was May 22. In that week it ranked in the top 10 in two categories — Small Business Entrepreneurship (#3) and Entrepreneurship (#3). It also ranked #35 in the Business and Investing category, and most remarkably it ranked #113 overall for all books on Amazon.

The book's main theme of product reinvention and personal reinvention has resonated with reviewers and readers as evidenced by its awards and Amazon rankings. According to the author, Ken Thurber, Do NOT Invent had its genesis in unresolved questions and comments from his first book, Big Wave Surfing – Extreme Technology Development, Management, Marketing and Investing.

According to Thurber, "I found that my first book raised many questions, chief among them was – how do people innovate and how do you define innovation." Accordingly, the main theme of the book is about reinvention and understanding product positioning. In the pages of Do NOT Invent, you'll find case studies of products like the Ford Mustang, the Segway and the iPod. The book examines why some products get it right while others don't quite measure up.

Big Wave Surfing book takes home another honor at  the 2012 Hollywood Book Festival

Big Wave Surfing, Dr. Thurber's first non-fiction business book, was also recognized at the 2012 Hollywood Book Festival. The Book was a runner up in the How To category. The Hollywood Festival is noted for annually honoring books that deserve further attention from the film, television and multimedia communities.

This new announcement makes Big Wave Surfing one of the top business books of 2011-2012. With ten awards in 2011, and 19 now in 2012, it continues to remain popular with both reviewers and readers.

According to the author, Dr. Thurber, "I wrote Big Wave Surfing as an analogy to show how disruption causes big waves to form and that these disruptions will have far-reaching economic, political and social effects.

"As the book points out, it's critical to be able to spot these big waves forming. We talk about them from a technological perspective, but it's clear that technology is rapidly altering our business, social and political landscape."

Thurber continues, "We live in interesting times. Our true measure will be how well we adapt not only to the speed of change, but the results of these changes. I believe my book will help people begin to understand and deal with these changes. I have spent a lifetime in the computer business, a business that can change radically every 12-18 months, sometimes sooner. We are talking about disruption, and often extreme techniques are needed to deal with this disruption."

Thurber says like the physical surfers who ride the big waves at a beach like Mavericks, these new concepts won't "always be pretty and, in fact, it may be down-right dangerous. There will be winners. There will be wipeouts and losers. But if we don't boldly embrace the next wave, the innovation economy, then profound structural changes will occur in American society."
