'All Dolled Up in Sugar': A Guide for Cake and Cookie Decorating at Home

STERLING, Va., May 4, 2010 — Just in time for Mother's Day, author Debra J. Mosely invites women, families, mothers and daughters to delight in her collection of sweet treats. In her new book, "The Cake & Cookie Closet: All Dolled Up in Sugar" (published by AuthorHouse), Mosely shares her tips and techniques to create and decorate fun, delicious wardrobe-inspired desserts.

Mosely's designs are featured at celebrations and events across the country, including weddings and birthday parties. Now, she's offering instructions for anyone to create these popular designs at home. "The Cake & Cookie Closet" is designed to show readers how simple it is to create great-looking desserts. Mosely includes recipes and directions to create her fondant doll cakes and clothing and accessory-inspired sugar cookies. When asked why her book is appealing, Mosely states:

"Women love clothes, shoes, handbags, hats, and accessories, and you'll find all of these in an edible form when you come into my Cake & Cookie Closet … You will be inspired to create these designs and share them with those you love. Whether you use your own recipe or one of my favorites, just reach for this book when you want to dream in sugar."

Mosely hopes to inspire women and little girls to get creative through her beginning and mid-level designs, to think up more designs on their own and share their creations with family and friends. One of Mosely's favorite recipes is her carrot cake recipe below:

CARROT CAKE

4 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups melted unsalted butter
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp pure vanilla
1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
2 cups grated carrots

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease and flour your cake pans. Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl. I usually hand mix everything together but you can use a mixer. Pour into two greased and floured 9" round cake pans and bake for 30 minutes. Let cakes cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to completely cool on a rack.
