ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Nov. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Soldiers from the U.S. Army's 7th Mission Support Command (MSC) at Panzer Kaserne in Germany are replacing their DRASH military tents with rapidly deployable tactical command posts from Alaska Structures.
The star-shaped, 6,000-square-foot Alaska Structures (Alaska) military shelter platform is modular, highly portable, easily expandable and can be quickly assembled to provide a brigade-sized tactical operations center (TOC) with workspace for up to 200 people.
"It's designed to withstand winds of up to 80 miles per hour and can support snow loads of up to 20 pounds per square foot in temperatures ranging from -40 to +130 degrees Fahrenheit," said Alaska Structures military representative Tom A. Galbicsek, a retired Army Soldier quoted in an article on the Army website.
The newly developed tactical command center allows an advance small party to immediately deploy with an initial pack of two military shelters on a trailer. More components of the modular system will be added through a six-way hub as additional soldiers bring more tent modules and the mission tempo increases.
The new tactical command center package includes twin 250 kilowatt-hour generators that supply electricity for lighting, ventilation and heating and air conditioning modules. The entire system can be assembled and expanded with minimal tool use.
The 7th MSC is an Army Reserve Command that provides forward-stationed consequence management and civil affairs assets to the U.S. Army in Europe.
