'A Survivor's Tale': It Is Not Your Fault — You Are Not Alone

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 7, 2009 — In life, one normally reaches a time where it seems as if they have experienced all of life's mishaps — but for Sally Bruce, she decided to share her story in print, and in turn tells her story through poetry. Bruce shares her epic story of survival and depicts that when in doubt, there is help and hope afterwards.

In this solemn work of poetry, "A Survivor's Tale," Bruce details her life-changing experiences throughout her struggling childhood. As she began her journey in life she immediately felt as if she had no voice: no voice to speak up for herself, share her thoughts and speak her mind. But Bruce is no longer silent. Throughout her heart-felt journey, she has found peace — and she finds it through writing.

It is evident that without these life experiences it wouldn't have made Bruce the woman she is today. In this poetic journey, Bruce proclaims, "No matter how your life has been and the numbers continue to keep time, it does get easier and seclusion doesn't help, but it does get better to talk about it, sometimes."

"A Survivor's Tale" is a book of poems that is designed to give truth and comfort to readers; especially those who have been traumatized by some kind of abuse or assault. With hope, Bruce hopes to reach out to individuals and relay one single message — you are not alone.

About the Author

Sally Bruce, born in Knoxville, TN, was born in between two brothers — this is where her journey of agony began. At age two, her mother passed away, and her relationship with her father stayed forever strained, as his love for her she could have gone without. When she went to live with her father's sister, she suffered more abuse from her aunt's husband; it was as if she led three different lives: one of sexual abuse (by her father), verbal abuse (by her uncle) and then there was her life of writing — which has bought Bruce a life of forgiveness and hope.
