Gold Crest Care Center, a Nursing Home in the Bronx, honors Veteran's Day by hosting an annual awards ceremony for the nursing home's eleven respected veterans.
BRONX, N.Y., Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — In honor of Veterans Day, Gold Crest Care Center, a top NYC Nursing Home, is spotlighting the facility's annual Veterans Day Awards Ceremony for the 11 decorated veterans currently residing at the Bronx nursing home. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 11 at 2:30pm in the Gold Crest Care Center, and the main dining hall is free for all who wish to join.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, over 100,000 veterans have turned to counseling for their mental health issues since 2001, and about one-half of these cases involved Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Veterans suffer from a variety of mental illnesses, but PTSD seems to be one of the most prevalent. PTSD is caused by a traumatic experience, like combat, with symptoms varying from flashbacks to difficulty sleeping.
One of the most effective and safe methods for treating PTSD is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which deconstructs vicious thought cycles that lead to harmful behavior and help people change these patterns to improve coping. Two Cognitive Behavioral methods used to treat PTSD include exposure therapy and cognitive restructuring. Exposure therapy helps patients confront their fears, while cognitive restructuring is used to help ensure patients aren't feeling guilty about an event that was out of their control.
In honor of all these men and women have gone through and the work these individuals have put into securing our freedom, Gold Crest Care Center will be holding its annual Veteran's Day ceremony this Tuesday, November 11, at 2:30pm. The Bronx Nursing Home, set in the pleasant Pelham Gardens, will be presenting certificates to 11 resident veterans in honor of their duty to this country. Presenting the certificates will be Sergeant Jackson of the NYPD. Veteran's day is a reminder of the great service the American men and women who served in our country's military have done for us. Food and refreshments will be served, and entertainment will set the mood. Any and all community members are welcome to join in this celebration of recognition and honor.
