Ms. Archambeau will introduce a panel titled "Cybersecurity after the Executive Order: All Things Internet", and provide the closing remarks for the event

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — MetricStream CEO, Shellye Archambeau, has been invited to speak at the Silicon Valley Cybersecurity Summit 2014 which will be held on August 12, 2014 in Palo Alto, California. Ms. Archambeau will introduce a panel titled "Cybersecurity after the Executive Order: All Things Internet", which will explore the impact of new legislation on online information sharing, collaboration, security, and privacy. The discussion will also focus on the role of the Congress in providing a legislative solution to the cybersecurity challenge. As the Cybersecurity Champion of the Silicon Value Leadership Group, Ms. Archambeau will also provide the closing remarks for the event.

Joining Ms. Archambeau at the event are distinguished speakers and participants, including U.S. Senators and Congressmen, Chief Security and Information Officers, Technology Analysts, Cybersecurity experts, and leading executives from business and academia. These thought leaders and policy makers will participate in a series of interactive discussions, exploring topics such as President Obama's Executive Order (EO), the role of the federal government in improving cybersecurity, and the role of academia in building the next generation of cybersecurity experts.

Sophisticated online threats such as the Heartbleed bug, coupled with large-scale cyber-attacks on some of the nation's top businesses, have prompted the U.S. government to re-evaluate its cybersecurity efforts. A year after President Obama released the EO on Cybersecurity, the government announced the launch of the cybersecurity framework; a voluntary how-to guide developed by hundreds of companies and several federal agencies, which aims to equip organizations that provide critical infrastructure with the tools needed to improve their cybersecurity measures. Meanwhile, the Senate Intelligence Committee has also advanced the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), moving it one step closer to a floor debate.

These and other reforms are critical at a time when businesses and law enforcement authorities are struggling to deter a wide range of sophisticated cyber threats, which know no geographic boundaries.

The Silicon Valley Cybersecurity Summit will explore some of these reforms, and take a closer look at how the private sector, the public sector, and academia can work together to solve today's most pressing cybersecurity challenges. Key participants at the Summit include:

  • U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Ranking Member of Finance Committee and member of the Judiciary Committee
  • U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Vice Chair, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
  • Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin), member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Cybersecurity Caucus
  • Congressman Pat Meehan (R-PA), member of the Committee on Homeland Security, Chair of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies

"Cybersecurity is an issue that is important to every person and organization, regardless of size, industry, or location. Cybersecurity affects us all, in many different and complex ways," said Shellye Archambeau. "That's why it is so important for all of us, as business leaders, policy makers, federal agency representatives, and academia, to come together and discuss how we can become more risk-aware and resilient to cyber threats. At both MetricStream and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, we strive to develop sophisticated solutions and practices for strengthening cybersecurity and risk management. The challenges are plenty, but through forums such as the Silicon Valley Cybersecurity Summit 2014, we will bring our experiences, perspectives, and expertise to discuss how, together, we can address the challenges at hand."
