Consumers Have Spoken – Chicken Cock Whiskey "Cherry Bounce" Takes Flavored Whiskey Gold at 2014 SIP Awards

Renegade Brand Honored at International Spirits Competition Recognizing Consumer Preference Over Industry Influence

CHARLESTON, S.C., June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Chicken Cock Whiskey is stealing headlines again. Fresh off its recent launch, Cherry Bounce – the newest flavor from the Charleston-based brand – is already an award-winning consumer favorite. At the 2014 Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards, Chicken Cock's cherry cola-infused American whiskey earned a gold medal in the Flavored Whiskey category, beating out entries from some of the largest spirits companies in the world.

Founded in 2009 as a way to judge spirits without industry bias, the SIP Awards are a unique, consumer-driven competition where brand entries receive ratings based on blind tastings. SIP Awards panel members have no affiliations with distillers, marketers, wholesalers, distributors or trade organizations. This year, more than 403 brands were evaluated and scored for aroma, taste and finish.

"We are especially appreciative of this recognition from the SIP Awards because it is indicative of the broader consumer response to our whiskey," said Matti Anttila, founder and president of Chicken Cock Distillers. "Chicken Cock Whiskey is all about honoring the heritage of an iconic American brand and making whiskey fun again and Cherry Bounce is the perfect expression of that."

First distilled in 1856, Chicken Cock Whiskey was reintroduced by Anttila in early 2013. The brand currently features a line of flavored American whiskies available in Cinnamon, Southern Spiced, Root Beer and Cherry Bounce. Chicken Cock Whiskey is easily recognized in its quick-chill aluminum bottle, which harkens back to the tin cans used to smuggle the bootleg whiskey into Prohibition-era speakeasies, such as The Cotton Club in Harlem.

Chicken Cock's Cherry Bounce flavor pays homage to one of the most popular alcohol drinks in early American history. Martha Washington was known for her Cherry Bounce recipe, made with fresh cherry juice, whiskey and sugar. Chicken Cock has kicked it up a notch by incorporating the natural flavor of cola.

Country music star and brand partner, Colt Ford, calls Cherry Bounce his favorite flavor of Chicken Cock Whiskey. "When I'm on tour, it's nice to have something that tastes this good to kick back with," said Ford. "We keep taking Chicken Cock to the next level, and I love that my fans are now fans of Cherry Bounce, too."

Bottled at 70 proof, Cherry Bounce ($19.99/750ml) is perfect as a straight shot or in mixed cocktails. Since re-launching last year, Chicken Cock Whiskey has quickly grown in popularity across the U.S., with flavored whiskeys now one of the fastest-growing segments of the spirits industry.
