21st Century Swimming Lessons, Inc. teaches Miracle Swimming, a system of learn-to-swim designed for adults who are afraid in water. There are 109 million adults in the U.S. who are afraid in water: 46% of the American adult public, according to a 1998 Gallup Poll. The secret ingredient to Miracle Swimming, which explains its growth since 1983, is "fun."

"21st defines an adult who cannot swim as an adult who cannot rely on him- or herself to be safe and remain safe in deep water. The ability to do strokes does not make a person safe in deep water and therefore is insufficient for safety," says 21st. Miracle Swimming teaches adults how to remain in control in water, shallow and deep, to prevent panic, and to understand how to be themselves—comfortable and peaceful— anywhere in the pool. Advanced classes teach confidence in the ocean.

A February 2-6 course will be followed immediately by the next course in the pool series, February 9-13, which, in combination with the initial course, brings most students to complete freedom in deep water. Each course is 24 hours long over five days.  February's course is also an instructor training.
